Informative and Funny April 4, 2008 Amy Miller 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
If you are looking for a quick escape from reality this is a must read. This book was so descriptive that I actually felt I had experienced for myself what life was like on a cruise ship. More than that it is hilarious. Your eyes will tear with laughter as you read about the crazy adventures on board the Cruise liner. Non stop fun from the hokey pool games to the ships disco. More than that it is documentation of Berman's drive to pursue his dream job and do what he loves to do, entertain. It also shares some tender moments like the air lift of a sick passanger and that very romantic New Years Eve. This was a very enjoyable book.

We love to cruise and this book was very interesting. Fun to see behind the scenes. Gave this book to the assisant CD on our last cruise and he said he had a waiting list of crew members wanting to read it. Our copy is now a permanent passenger on the Carnival Elation...
A jaunty, behind the scenes view of life on a cruise ship May 19, 2008 G. Catano (Santa Clara, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Micha Berman brings his slightly neurotic sense of life to create a truly hilarious view of life as a privileged employee on a cruise ship. If you are interested in just a hilarious, easy to read book about what life is like as a cruise ship employee--which, no surprise, seems like an extended college party, but on water and no mid-terms--this is a great book to read. If you are interested in getting a better sense of what a career on a cruise ship would look like then you will get a full spectrum view of the competition for top-deck jobs; the glamour of these jobs once you get them; the monotony that sets in after months on a floating hotel; and, if you don't start at the top, the downright drudgery of the menial jobs below deck.
A fun read! May 26, 2008 Alison M. (Los Gatos, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
What a fun read! I found myself smiling, if not outright laughing, as I read about Berman's escapades on the cruise ship. Berman is a character who tells his story with wit and charm. If you want an insider's view of life on a cruise ship, or just a pleasurable read, it's worth your time.
two words... June 18, 2008 J. Soh (Honolulu, HI) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
TOO SHORT! Permanent Passenger is a great read-ride, but like an amazing coaster it feels like it's over before it really began. Berman pens an hilarious, honest feeling account of life on a cruise ship, spiced with hints of lascivious affairs and rampant, albeit borderline, alcoholism... not to mention strange odors. Recipe = fun.
