Product Description Seven unforgettable dinner companions convene at table 13--all living the dream of cruising the world's most colorful ports. Izzy, curmudgeon, widower, has had a nefarious hand in the makeup of the table. Guilty about his wealth, Izzy courts poverty by blowing the remnants of his fortune on a penthouse, and finds an agonizing love in the process. Tessie, the object of his desire, down to earth, where she keeps her secret; Burt & Ellen, a CEO and his wife on the brink of disaster; Neil the cruise pianist shielding his past, besieged by the women passengers; Gene a former gentleman host trying to recapture a lost love; and Hector the professor with a special affinity for a shipboard Lolita. Half the occupants of fated table 13 are convinced this trip is their last hurrah. The other half have yet to realize their fate. These massive characters with their ambitions and agonies burst through the pages with Gardner's engaging style. This is storytelling at its finest.

| Customer Reviews: A truly remarkable and highly recommended read August 16, 2009 Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) Every now and then there comes a novel that deserves the accolade of 'epic'. Theodore Gardner's "Voyage To Oblivion" is just such a massive and impressive work of imaginative fiction. Set aboard a luxury liner, the cast of memorable characters includes Izzy, a wealthy and curmudgeon widower; Tessie, a down-to-earth woman who is the object of Izzy's desire; Burt & Ellen, a CEO and his wife who are on the brink of disaster; Neil, the cruise pianist with a past and the center of attention from the women on board; Gene, a man trying to recapture a lost love, and Hector, an academic professor drawn to the charms of a shipboard Lolita. All of them dine at table 13, half of whom are convinced that this voyage is their last adventure, the other half persuaded that they've yet to achieve their ultimate destiny. Theodore Gardner's narrative talents, his ability to create fully realized and memorable characters, his gift for basic storytelling, all combine to make "Voyage To Oblivion" a truly remarkable and highly recommended read -- and a popular addition to community library contemporary fiction collections.
A Modern Day Tragedy September 14, 2008 Athalia Stoneback (Pennsylvania) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Theodore Roosevelt Gardner II's Voyage to Oblivion is the epitome of modern-day tragedies. None of the characters are perfect, but it is their imperfections that make them human and the story interesting. Anyone who enjoys taking a cruise (and who doesn't!?) would like this book.
