I have ordered several books in preparation for an Alaskan cruise. So far, this has been the most helpful. It really explains how cruises work and explains so many details of each cruise ship. This book is exactly what I wanted. It also has details of each port of call and recommended excursions. It is really great.

This book reviews the various cruise ships, their specifications then rates them. Activities, children's programs, entertainment, service, cabins, the fleet, and dinning are some of the topics covered. It then goes on the give information on the Ports of Call, from excursions to shopping. There is an Appendix A, explains Alaska in Depth from the surging ice to earthquakes, and rain forests to a short gold-rush history. Appendix B gives information and drawings of Alaska's wildlife.

I cut out pages from the other, heavier, books; but, this book I needed with me to refer to. I did a lot of internet searching for places to see/things to do, shopping, etc. but this, by far, was the best guidebook. I also have Frommer's Vancouver & Victoria book and it's coming with me on my upcoming trip.

This travel guide provided great information for the novice cruiser and I highlighted many good suggestions and helpful tips that will make our cruise/tour much more enjoyable. Highly recommend it - all six in our group have read it, learned from it and enjoyed it. It is the usual high quality product of this company.
